Asphaltic plug joints are used with great success in bridges construction and civil engineering for flexible expansion joints that have to absorb movements of up to 35 mm at right angles to the direction of traffic. ELASTOMERIC BEARINGS A wide range of loads can be accommodated by varying the plan area, the thickness of internal elastomer layers and the elastomer hardness. Plan areas should be chosen on the basis of bearing seat dimensional limitations as well as loads.
